We are progressing perfectly! We have clear plan that contains a study about the current environment, considerations of the Microsoft Azure features and an assessment for the possibility of the migration process and if there is any blocker we need to mitigate.
Now, we need to go through the different tools provided by Microsoft, that can help us to perform the migration process.
The first tool is the Microsoft Data Migration Assistant tool (DMA) that helps in identifying the compatibility issues that blocks the migration between the different database platforms and the recommended features in the new platforms that you can take advantage of, to enhance the performance and the reliability of the current workload
The DMA tool can be downloaded from the Microsoft Download Center, and installed to your machine or server to start creating assessments and migration projects.
The second tool that is provided by Microsoft for migrating the database workload from different platforms is the Azure Database Migrate service. This tool is an online/offline migration tool that allows us to migrate data from relational database engines such as SQL Server and Oracle, NoSQL database platforms such as Mongo DB and Open-Source database platforms such as PostgreSQL into Microsoft Azure Data platforms within the Azure Portal site.
You can imagine the Azure Database Migrate service as a DMA tool that is hosted in Azure, with extended assessment reports and migration capabilities that are provided by DMA.
Azure Migrate is another migration service, hosted by Microsoft Azure, that provides us with an easy and comprehensive migration process, with all discovery, assessment, sizing, and migration steps. This tool can be used to migrate SQL Server, Web applications and Virtual machines from on-premises datacenters to Microsoft Azure with minimal effort.
